"The Crown"'s Claire Foy Says She's "Honored" to Have Portrayed Queen Elizabeth II

Claire Foy, who played Queen Elizabeth II in the first two seasons of Netflix's "The Crown" has immense respect for the Queen's legacy, telling the BBC, "I think that she was an incredible monarch," while attending the Toronto Film Festival. "She united people, and she was a massive symbol of continuity and dignity and grace. I'm very honored to have been a teeny, tiny, small part of her story."

"The Crown"'s Olivia Colman, one of few actors who've had the privilege of portraying The Queen on screen, told Variety on Sept. 8 that she "wouldn't know where to begin" to explain what Queen Elizabeth's legacy means to her. "She made a promise as a young woman and she absolutely kept it with such dignity," she continued. "We're all incredibly impressed by what she did."

"Bridgerton" actress Phoebe Dynevor posted a video of the queen on her Instagram Stories. Over short clips of the queen throughout her life, a voice-over says, "We are all visitors to this time, this place. We are just passing through. Our purpose here is to observe, to learn, to grow, to love and then we return home." The meaningful quote is not from the queen herself but an Australian Aboriginal proverb.

During night 11 of his Madison Square Garden residency, pop star Harry Styles led a tribute to the Queen at the start of the concert. "From my homeland, there's some very sad news today: the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. Please join me in a round of applause for 70 years of service," he said, then thanked the gathered fans for the rousing applause.

Former British soccer player David Beckham wrote on Instagram, "I'm truly saddened by the death of Her Majesty, The Queen. What an outpouring of love and respect we saw for the Platinum Jubilee for her life of service. How devastated we all feel today shows what she has meant to people in this country and around the world. How much she inspired us with her leadership. How she comforted us when times were tough. Until her last days she served her country with dignity and grace. This year she would have known how loved she was. My thoughts and prayers are with our Royal Family..."

On Friday, Sept. 16, Beckham also waited 13 hours in line to pay his respects to Queen Elizebeth II at Westminster Hall. "I grew up in a household of royalists and I was brought up that way so if my grandparents [had] been here today, I know that they would have wanted to be here so I am here on their behalf and on behalf of my family and obviously to celebrate with everybody else here," he told ITV News. "The amount of times that I was able to meet her through my career and I was very lucky . . . to represent my country, to be captain of my country."

Victoria Beckham took posted a black and white photo of the monarch on Instagram and wrote a fitting caption. The former Spice Girl wrote: "Today is a very sad day not just for our country but for the entire world. I'm deeply saddened by the passing of our beloved Monarch, Her Majesty The Queen. She will be remembered for her steadfast loyalty and service, and my thoughts are with the royal family at this incredibly sad time."

British model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley posted a black-and-white picture of the Queen to her Instagram page, saying: "Forever our Queen 💔 Rest In Peace 🕊"

Sir Elton John, who was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1998, shared a heartwarming note in honor of the monarch to Instagram. The singer and composer wrote: "Along with the rest of the nation, I am deeply saddened to hear the news of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth's passing. She was an inspiring presence to be around and led the country through some of our greatest and darkest moments with grace, decency and a genuine caring warmth. Queen Elizabeth has been a huge part of my life from childhood to this day, and I will miss her dearly."

Ed Sheeran shared a post on Instagram. With a photo of the queen, he added a red heart emoji. The singer has previously opened up about how Queen Elizabeth played a part in inspiring his music career after watching Eric Clapton play at the Golden Jubilee.

No words were necessary for Dua Lipa to express how she feels about the death of Queen Elizabeth II. The singer simply shared an early portrait of the monarch.

"Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was more than a monarch. She defined an era. In a world of constant change, she was a steadying presence and a source of comfort and pride for generations of Britons, including many who have never known their country without her," reads a statement from the White House. "An enduring admiration for Queen Elizabeth II united people across the Commonwealth. The seven decades of her history-making reign bore witness to an age of unprecedented human advancement and the forward march of human dignity."

The statement continued, "Today, the thoughts and prayers of people all across the United States are with the people of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth in their grief. We send our deepest condolences to the Royal Family, who are not only mourning their Queen, but their dear mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her legacy will loom large in the pages of British history, and in the story of our world."

"Michelle and I were lucky enough to come to know Her Majesty, and she meant a great deal to us," the former president wrote in a statement on behalf of himself and the former first lady. "Back when we were just beginning to navigate life as President and First Lady, she welcomed us to the world stage with open arms and extraordinary generosity. Time and again, we were struck by her warmth, the way she put people at ease, and how she brought her considerable humor and charm to moments of great pomp and circumstance. . . . Our thoughts are with her family and the people of the United Kingdom at this difficult time."

The Prime Minister, who was formally anointed to the role by the Queen on Tuesday, made a statement outside Downing Street shortly after the news broke. She said, "We are all devastated by the news that we have just heard from Balmoral," and that the Queen's death is "a huge shock to the nation and the whole world." Speaking emotively, she said that the Queen is "the rock on which modern Britain was built" and that "Britain is the great country it is today because of her."

British supermodel Kate Moss reposted British Vogue's tribute to Queen Elizabeth II on Instagram.

The Beatles legend shared a portrait of the late monarch, writing in an Instagram message, "God bless Queen Elizabeth II May she rest in peace Long live The King."

"Several years ago, I met Queen Elizebeth at The Royal Variety Performance of 2009. As she approached me, all i could think of was WTH?? I'm an American kid from the projects and I'm in the company of the Queen of England," the talk show host wrote in a tweet. "I was in awe. Rest In Peace. God Save the King."

Actor and comedian Stephen Fry told his 12 million Twitter followers how devastated he is about the queen's death. He wrote, "Oh dear. Oh my. Oh heavens. Bless my soul. Oh lor. Heck," shortly afterwards adding, "I don't know why I'm sobbing. Silly really. Oh dear."

Piers Morgan honored the queen live on air on the UK's TalkTV. He said, "I struggle to even imagine a Britain without this Queen. But, with great sadness, we now have to imagine it because the moment we've all been dreading has finally come." "RuPaul's Drag Race" judge Michelle Visage, who is a self-proclaimed Anglophile, also posted a tribute to the Queen online. The TV personality quote tweeted the official Royal Family page's statement, simply adding a teary-eyed emoji.

British supermodel Naomi Campbell shared a photo of the Queen and her corgis on the beach to her Instagram Story. Alongside the picture, she added a Union Jack emoji, a dove emoji, a prayer emoji, and two white heart emojis.

Gordon Ramsay posted a joyful photograph of the Queen on his Instagram grid along with a wordy caption thanking her for her service. He wrote, "You will be so missed, a truly remarkable woman who gave so much to us all in Great Britain and worldwide. So humble, selfless and giving. Someone who made such an impact on us all over her decades of service. Rest in perfect peace your Majesty. Gordon ❤️"

Helen Mirren, who portrayed Queen Elizabeth II in the 2006 movie "The Queen," wrote on Instagram, "I am proud to be an Elizabethan. We mourn a woman, who, with or without the crown, was the epitome of nobility."

British makeup artist Charlotte Tilbury posted a lengthy tribute to the queen on her Instagram page alongside a photo of the pair when Tilbury received an MBE in 2018. She wrote, "I, along with everyone at Charlotte Tilbury Beauty, offer my deepest, heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II today. We join them in mourning the loss of our cherished Sovereign. We, along with the entire nation and the world, mourn the loss of an extraordinary woman who has served our country, and The Commonwealth, for over seven incredible decades. I want to pay tribute to Her Majesty, and thank her for the leadership, strength and love she has given to us for so many years."

In a post shared on Instagram on Sept. 8, Collins wrote: "Honoring the life of Britain's longest reigning monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. The only monarch most of us have ever known, I remember growing up watching her Christmas Day addresses every year in awe. We'd stop all celebration preparations and watch closely with a cup of tea. It was a tradition, and traditions were something she was extremely passionate about. Today I'm reflecting on her incredible reign and years of unwavering service and all of my memories of her I hold dear. My heart goes out to the royal family — may she rest in the sweetest peace, knowing her legacy will live on…"

Millie Bobby Brown added a poignant quote from the Queen alongside a happy image of the Queen sitting in the garden in her younger days. The "Stranger Things" star captioned her post: "'I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service.' -Queen Elizabeth II May she rest peacefully ❤️."

Rita Ora revealed her sadness at the news of the Queen's passing. Adding an image of the monarch in her younger days to her Instagram, Ora wrote: "I know I'm not the only one with a great feeling of loss and sadness tonight. The queen was an incredible woman who gave her whole life to her country. She reigned with such grace, elegance and honour. A true inspiration for us all. My thoughts and prayers are with the Royal family at this difficult and sad time. May she rest in peace."

After that adorable sketch where the queen and Paddington Bear bonded over marmalade sandwiches for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations, Paddington himself posted a heartfelt tweet. "Thank you, Ma'am, for everything," it reads.

In a poignant post, F1 champion Lewis Hamilton reflected on his time chatting with the Queen. Alongside a touching image of the late monarch smiling, he posted a personal tribute, revealing the two shared a love of dogs. "How do you find the words to describe the loss of Her Majesty The Queen? She was truly an iconic leader, an inspiration and a reassuring presence for most, if not all, of our lives," he wrote on Instagram.

"Since the sad news yesterday, I've been reflecting on her incredible life. She was a symbol of hope for so many and she served her country with dignity, dedication and kindness. She was truly like no other and I'm grateful to have lived during her time. Her legacy will be long-lasting and her passing deeply felt.
